چکیده

The Black-veined White Aporia crataegi (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) is a trans-Palearctic species causing damage to various fruit and berry crops. Here we analyzed Wolbachia infection in A. populations. bacteria are maternally transmitted intracellular symbionts of many arthropods, including numerous Lepidoptera. We have studied 376 samples collected 10 regions Russia from the Far East Kaliningrad. prevalence was very low; only eight Wolbachia-positive specimens were detected Yakutia, Republic Buryatia, Sverdlovsk Kaliningrad Provinces, no found other localities. Two haplotypes, ST-19 ST-109, A B supergroups respectively, identified using multilocus sequence typing (MLST) protocol. These haplotypes also previously reported different lepidopteran species. Both associated with same mtDNA haplotype (as inferred cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene) crataegi, two haplotypes. This incongruence inherited agents indicates independent cases acquisition history. above data suggest that can infect but cannot establish host

Wolbachia-Host Interactions: Host Mating Patterns Affect Wolbachia Density Dynamics

Wolbachia are maternally inherited intracellular bacteria that infect a wide range of arthropods and cause an array of effects on host reproduction, fitness and mating behavior. Although our understanding of the Wolbachia-associated effects on hosts is rapidly expanding, our knowledge of the host factors that mediate Wolbachia dynamics is rudimentary. Here, we explore the interactions between W...

Some Features of Water Saving in Aporia crataegi L. Caterpillars Inhabiting Areas of Dry Climate in Eastern Siberia (Yakutia, Russia)

Climate in Yakutia is characterized by low winter and hot summer temperatures that cause extreme low air humidity reaching up to 30% in varied periods. Therefore, insects in Yakutia are seasonally faced to extremely dry air that forced them to create special adaptation mechanisms during evolution. Estimation of water balance for Aporia crataegi L. caterpillars was based on measurements of rates...

Host-Polarized Cell Growth in Animal Symbionts

To determine the fundamentals of cell growth, we must extend cell biological studies to non-model organisms. Here, we investigated the growth modes of the only two rods known to widen instead of elongating, Candidatus Thiosymbion oneisti and Thiosymbion hypermnestrae. These bacteria are attached by one pole to the surface of their respective nematode hosts. By incubating live Ca. T. oneisti and...

Wolbachia Mediate Variation of Host Immunocompetence

BACKGROUND After decades during which endosymbionts were considered as silent in their hosts, in particular concerning the immune system, recent studies have revealed the contrary. In the present paper, we addressed the effect of Wolbachia, the most prevalent endosymbiont in arthropods, on host immunocompetence. To this end, we chose the A. vulgare-Wolbachia symbiosis as a model system because ...

Vertically transmitted symbionts in structured host metapopulations.

We develop a structured metapopulation model for vertically transmitted symbionts in natural host populations. We focus primarily on two questions: Are mutualism and high transmission probability prerequisites for the survival of symbionts in structured host metapopulations? What are the ecological conditions under which coexistence of infected and uninfected hosts is possible? We start with st...
